Sun, heat and the right topcoat
Inland from the coast, Vista is warmer and sunnier than the beach cities, especially through the summer. Garages that face the afternoon sun, or that sit with the door open while you work, expose the floor to UV light. Standard epoxy can amber over time in UV, which is why we recommend a polyaspartic topcoat for sun-exposed garages. It's UV-stable, so the topcoat itself won't amber the way epoxy can.
Heat also changes installation day. Coatings set faster when it's warm, so on hot days the work has to be planned around the temperature and the application kept moving, which is part of why preparation and experience matter as much as the product.
Summer heat reaches your tires too. They come home hot, and hot tires can pull up a coating that isn't properly bonded, right where you park. Grinding and priming the slab first is how we guard against that.
If your garage is also your workshop, a solid epoxy or flake finish stands up to oil, spills and wear, and wall storage keeps the bench area clear.
Worth considering: flake floors with a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat, solid epoxy for workshops, and wall storage for tools and equipment.

My garage gets a lot of sun. Will the floor yellow?
Standard epoxy can, over time. For sun-exposed garages we recommend a polyaspartic topcoat, which is UV-stable, so it resists the yellowing standard epoxy shows in sunlight.
Can you install when it's hot out?
Yes. Warm weather makes coatings set faster, so on a hot day the application has to be timed around the temperature.
