An overhead rack is a sturdy storage platform suspended from the ceiling. It's fastened to the structural joists above the drywall, so the weight is carried by the framing of the house rather than the ceiling surface.

The space it uses is usually wasted: above the hood of a parked car, or along the sides of the garage where the door doesn't travel. Placement matters, because the rack has to clear the door as it opens and closes, the opener and its rail, and any lights in the ceiling.

Bins and boxes that line the walls or crowd the parking space can move overhead, so the garage works as a garage again.

On installation day, the racks are mounted to the structural framing with the proper hardware and positioned to clear the door, opener and lights. Before we leave, we do a final safety check of the installation.
